CHEC Supports Rodanthe Roundabout Beautification Project

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative has partnered with North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives to support the Rodanthe Waves Salvo (RWS) Civic Association with economic development funds for a new community beautification project at the Hwy 12 roundabout in Rodanthe.

The project will help enhance the entrance to Rodanthe by improving the appearance of the roundabout that welcomes residents and visitors traveling to Hatteras Island. The RWS Civic Association has partnered with Dare County Extension Master Gardener volunteers and NCDOT to select native plants that are well suited for the project design. Preparing the site and planting will be a multi-year process that will begin this fall. The project will also include installation of a ‘Welcome to Hatteras Island’ National Scenic Byway sign and a model dory boat, to be constructed by Cape Hatteras Secondary School students.

“CHEC is a member-owned, locally based cooperative committed to investing in projects that make Hatteras Island an even better place to live, work and visit,” said Susan Flythe, executive vice president and general manager of Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative. “We are proud to support the Rodanthe Waves Salvo Civic Association and the volunteers who are working to create a welcoming entrance to Hatteras Island.”
