2026 Annual Meeting & Board of Director Election Results

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative’s 2026 Annual Meeting of Members was held on May 18, at the Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies. Prior to the business meeting, members enjoyed a meal catered by Crazy Johnny’s Barbeque while listening to the Cape Hatteras Secondary School string ensemble. A business meeting followed the dinner and included the announcement of director election results and an update from Executive Vice President and General Manager Susan Flythe.

McEwan, Hooper and Midgett re-elected to CHEC Board of Directors

The District 5 Rodanthe, Waves & Salvo seat was retained by incumbent Briggs McEwan, who ran unopposed and received 1,099 votes. The District 3 Buxton seat was retained by incumbent John Hooper, who ran unopposed and received 1,079 votes. The District at Large seat was retained by incumbent Richard Midgett, who ran unopposed and received 1,080 votes. 

A total of 6,331 ballots were mailed to CHEC members during the first week of April. The return of 1,343 ballots by the May 8 deadline resulted in a 21% member participation.
